MADEIRA, OH (FOX19) - A brand new addition was installed at McDonald Commons Park, thanks to some Madeira High Schools students.

A wheelchair accessible swing was unveiled Friday afternoon that was dedicated to a very special member of the community, 5-year-old Scarlett Landefeld, who suffers from a spinal condition.

The high school's entrepreneurship club spent five weeks fundraising more than $2,000 for the project, which will now enable everyone who visits the park, the opportunity to enjoy its playground.

"She's wheelchair bound, so any activity we need to do has to be in her wheelchair. So that's why we were looking for a swing that we could actually swing her while she's in her wheelchair. We are so thankful that they were willing to put up a wheelchair accessible swing for Scarlett. This is a big deal, we're only five minutes away so we could actually come here everyday and enjoy this," said Scarlett's mother, Annie Landefeld.

Annie also says it was a 30 minute drive to the nearest wheelchair accessible park. A drive they won't need to make again.

"I just want to thank all you guys for your help. this is so awesome, it's going to change her life, and this is just awesome. thank you," Annie said.
