CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Mehring Way shut down at 6 a.m. Monday between Smith Street and Pete Rose Way.

Duke Energy is retiring the two natural gas lines that were installed in 1947.

Crews will install a new natural gas line that will run from Cincinnati to Covington.

The pipe will be drilled about 141 feet below the surface of the Ohio River. It will be 2,281 feet long, or roughly the length of 7.5 football fields.

On average, crews will pull one foot of pipe per minute.

The pipe will be positioned 13 stories under the river.

The project will take about 30 hours.

The road will be closed until the project is complete by Wednesday.
