City pools set to open after lifeguard shortage

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Cincinnati pools will open on time for the summer season.

The announcement from the Cincinnati Recreation Commission comes just weeks after a lifeguard shortage put six pools in jeopardy of opening later than scheduled. CRC was short 65 lifeguards as late as May 20.

After making a push through community groups and local media outlets, the city managed to enroll enough people into pre-lifeguard training classes to ensure each pool had proper staffing.

“We just want to say thank you to the community for helping to get the message out there,” Pacella said. “Children are going to have a great time playing in our pools this afternoon and all summer because of you.”
