Mardi Gras Winds Down

Mardi Gras winds down as Lent nears

It's been gray in New Orleans on this Fat Tuesday, but that didn't slow the partying. Mardi Gras -- reduced in size this year because it came early on the calendar -- still saw Bourbon Street full of partiers filling up on beer and cocktails before Lent begins with the arrival of Ash Wednesday. Even now, temperatures in the "Big Easy" are in the low 60's as revelers get in the last celebrating before the stroke of midnight. Fat Tuesday this year is the earliest it's been in 15 years -- so far from spring break that it kept much of the college crowd away. And there was plenty of room to walk around in the French Quarter, where it's often difficult to fit even a drink cup between people.
