The dated Brent Spence is crumbling and it is impacting small businesses. That is the focus of a hearing Wednesday in Washington D.C.

The U.S. House Small Business Committee will hold a hearing titled "The Road Ahead: Small Businesses and the Need for a Long Term Surface Transportation Reauthorization".

Matt Davis, the director of the Build Our New Bridge Now Coalition, the local group advocating for improvements to the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor, is scheduled to testify at 11 a.m.

Davis says due to congestion, small businesses have difficulty moving goods across the Brent Spence and that costs time, money and resources.

According to the coalition each day, 40,000 trucks carry more than $1 billion in freight across the bridge, so the daily backups on the bridge mean lost productivity.

Davis also says the infrastructure is vital to not only attracting new businesses to the region, but also retaining what is currently in the Tristate.

It is estimated rebuilding the Brent Spence would cost upwards of $2.5 billion dollars.
