Reds drop series opener to Padres

Rookie Jon Moscot dropped his Major League debut as the Reds lost the series opener to the San Diego Padres 6-2.

Moscot walked three batters in his first big league inning and gave up two runs before retiring his first three outs. He also gave up two Padres home runs in five innings pitched - allowing a total of four runs.

The Reds called Moscot up from Triple-A Louisville after starting pitcher Raisel Iglesias went on the disabled list with a strained oblique.

Moscot is the fourth Reds rookie starting pitcher to take the mound this season.

The Reds scored their only two runs on a two-run single from Joey Votto.

After a rain delay, the Padres added two more runs off the Reds bullpen.

The same two teams continue their weekend series Saturday at Great American Ball Park.
