After four years of planning and community partnership, a new affordable housing complex for single women is open off Reading Road and Kinsey Avenue.

Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley was among speakers at ribbon cutting ceremony for the Anna Louise Inn on Tuesday.

The housing facility moved from a historic building in Lytle Park Downtown after Western & Southern bought it for $4 million. The company plans to remodel that space into a hotel.

“Tomorrow, after 106 years, a new building will proudly be named Anna Louise Inn,” reads the non-profit's Facebook page. “We salute all the brave, hard-working, independent women who have made the Inn their home and we will continue to serve in our new home in Mt. Auburn."

The inn offers weekly rented rooms at an affordable rate and is the only single room occupancy residence for women in Cincinnati.

The new inn has 85 efficiency apartments that are four times larger than rooms in the original Anna Louise. There also are new intercoms and key card entry to provide security for the residents.

The inn was founded in 1909 by Cincinnati Union Bethel and provides housing and health services to women, including those leaving abusive relationships or prostitution, recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, or transitioning out of foster care.
