Avondale activist sues city leaders

AVONDALE, OH (FOX19) -

A community activist sued Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley and City Manager Harry Black over financial records and information about development projects.

Derrick Blassingame is demanding the city release public financial records of the mayor and his staff and details about Avondale projects.

City Solicitor Paula Boggs Muething called the lawsuit “meritless” and says the city is prepared to vigorously defend against Blassingame's claims.

Blassingame said he thinks some of those projects are having a negative effect on the African American community and other vulnerable demographics.

"Because Mr. Blassingame has consistently threatened litigation over the course of our dealings with him over the last several months, we are well prepared for this engagement. Also, just as we would with any member of the public, we will continue to respond to his numerous public records requests in a timely, thorough fashion," read a statement from Muething.
