COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

A man went to a hospital from an overnight house fire in Colerain Township, fire officials said.

An elderly couple safely evacuated when flames broke on the second floor of their home on Hanley Road near King James Court about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

But the male resident suffered smoke inhalation and minor burns on his arms and eyebrows. He was taken to Mercy Hospital West, where he is expected to recover.

The fire left heavy damage on the second floor. Damage was set at more than $25,000.

The cause remains under investigation, but an unattended candle may have sparked the blaze in a bedroom.

Electricity cut out in the home overnight due to the weather, so the man lit a candle and may forgotten about it when he went to bed, fire officials said.

Crews cleared the scene by 3 a.m.
