HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) -

Charges against a 16-year-old boy were upgraded to reckless homicide Tuesday after a 14-year-old boy died from gunshot wound to the head while the two played with a gun.

Gabriel Mejia succumbed to his injury Friday, two days after he was shot inside a Fairvew Avenue home.

The 16-year-old was initially charged with assault, tampering with evidence for allegedly trying to hide the gun and discharging a firearm within city limits.

He is held at the Butler County juvenile jail.

Hamilton police are looking into how the 16-year-old came into possession of the gun before he took it into the home.
