AirCare responded after a vehicle hit the back of a Rumpke garbage truck in this Clermont County community early Monday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

A man trapped and seriously injured in the 5:19 a.m. collision on Ohio 125 at Crane Schoolhouse Road, a dispatcher said.

He was flown to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. His name, age and extent of injuries were not released.

The Rumpke driver was not hurt, a Rumpke spokeswoman said in a prepared statement. Caution lights were in operation on the truck at the time of the accident.

"First and foremost, (our) thoughts and prayers (are) with the injured individual," said Harold Caskey, Rumpke operations manager, in a prepared statement. "We are thankful that our driver, who was emptying a can on the back of the truck just before the accident, escaped unharmed."

Westbound Ohio 125 was shut down in the area for about an hour, but it has since reopened.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
