MT. HEALTHY, OH (FOX19) - Mt. Healthy Police are investigating a daycare after a 4-year-old boy was left at a public park for over an hour Monday.

Staff members of Mt. Healthy Public Pool say a man brought the young child to them when he found the toddler crying and afraid. The boy could not tell pool employees his name or how to reach his parents. Pool Manager Emily Schmetzer called 911.

"He knew the name of the person who brought him but we couldn't understand him,” said Schmetzer."We were expecting a parent to show up quickly but he was with us for about half an hour and we didn't have anything. Nobody came or called."

Police eventually learned the child came to the park with his daycare, Zakiyya's Learning Center II located a few blocks away. According to surveillance footage, after a short playtime at the park police say daycare workers did a head count and left leaving the 4-year-old boy behind.

When FOX 19 NOW asked Zakiyya's for a comment, an employee denied it ever happened.

In 2012, the same daycare center was cited by Ohio Jobs and Family Services for 7 non-compliance violations including not keeping track of student attendance, student medication and employee education requirements.

Ohio Jobs and Family Services says they are aware of the most recent incident and will conduct a through investigation starting Tuesday.

Police say the boy was reunited with his mother at the police station and is doing well. At this time police say the mother is not pressing charges.

"Even when the cops came, he was pretty brave. He got in their car. He was a little hesitant at first but then he went with them,”
said Schmetzer.
