Black: Shutdown would hamper All-Star festivities

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

City Manager Harry Black laid-out the potential repercussions of a failure to pass a City budget prior to the deadline at the end of the month.

Black says if a budget is not passed by the June 30 deadline for the 2016 fiscal year, the All-Star Game in July would be directly impacted. He says in a letter to the council that a shutdown would not allow the city to effectively support All-Star Week.

The city manager says the shutdown would also mean a stop order to current contractors working throughout the city because spending authorization would not be available.

City Council could pass a temporary budget, which would provide the City necessary funding through Sept. 30. Council would then be have to approve a budget by Oct. 1.

Black says time remains for members of council to approve a budget prior to the June 30 deadline.
