UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH (FOX19) -

A former University of Cincinnati basketball player has been named as a victim by the Cincinnati Police Department after shots rang out near the campus early Wednesday morning.

Police stopped Ge' Lawn Guyn running from the scene before 2 a.m. Wednesday near the Shell gas station at Calhoun Street and Ohio Avenue. He was placed in handcuffs.

A Cincinnati police officer working a security detail saw a gunman firing at three men as they ran away, according Tim Brown, the night chief on duty at the time of the incident.

By 5 a.m., Guyn was released with police saying he was not a suspect, but a victim to aggravated assault.

The police department's incident report says the suspect fired two rounds at Guyn near the Shell gas station.

Investigators found a pistol in a trash can inside the U Square garage.

UC police sent out a crime alert just before 2 a.m. warning students and others on and near campus of the incident.

"Everyone near University Square Apts & Calhoun Hall be aware of shots fired in area w/suspect inside U Square E garage," the advisory reads.

Later UC police sent out another advisory cautioning the suspect remained at large:

"U Square garage search completed with gun recovered but suspect still at large - Male black 16-20 all black clothing," it read.

Guyn missed most of his senior season last year after injuring his pinky, requiring surgery. In his junior season, the point guard averaged 4.5 points and 2.0 rebounds a game.
