ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

A gunman is in the hospital after a standoff ended in an apparent suicide attempt early Wednesday.

Deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office responded to a 12:30 a.m. report of a man with a gun in the 900 block of Steam Ridge Lane, sheriff's officials said in a prepared statement.

When they arrived, they learned David Sohngen, 58, was barricaded inside his home with several guns.

They determined shots were fired inside the residence before they arrived, and then they heard more on several occasions as officers secured the premises.

After authorities made several unsuccessful attempts to contact the man, a special response team was called to the scene. Sohngen was found in the home with several self-inflicted gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen.

He was taken to University of Cincinnati Hospital Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition.

Sheriff's officials say he never fired anything outside of his residence, and no one else was injured.
