QUEENSGATE, OH (FOX19) - Volunteers will be cleaning up a homeless camp in near Gest and Seventh streets at 9 a.m. Friday.

Many of the people living in the area are young adults.

The Cincinnati Police Department is working with Lighthouse Youth Services to make a change and use compassionate care rather than a three day eviction.

Lighthouse Youth Services will be working with the young adults to get them into safe, permanent housing while helping them with basic needs and education.

The Homeless Coalition is also working with some of the older adults to get them housing.

The latest homeless count in Hamilton County shows there are 1,063 homeless people.  The numbers, taken in January, show just over 700 people in emergency shelters, around 300 in transitional housing and 50 people sleeping on the streets.

Want to help out? You can still participate by meeting other volunteers at 2522 Highland Ave. by 8:30 a.m. to caravan over.
