CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

The first Wrangler Runs began as a dedication to late Sergeant Eric Sierra. He died suddenly from an aneurysm in November of 2014 leaving behind three children and a wife.

Sgt. Sierra's brother, Joe Sierra, combined his own love of running with Sgt. Sierra's love for jeeps to come up with the 5k.

On Father's Day a few hundred friends, officers and Cincinnatians came to honor not only Sergeant Sierra, but also other fallen police officers.

"It's really a thank you for all of the officers in our community," said Joe Sierra.

Sunday began with a 5K and ended with everyone gathered at Jefferson Social, but through it all, Sergeant Sierra's wife Lisa was thinking about her late husband.

"Eric was everybody's best friend,” said Lisa. “He was outgoing. He was the best police officer, and he would do anything for anybody."

Officer Sean Woods said it's important for the police family to be there for their extended family.

"You can always count on your police family, not only your immediate family, but your police family to help you out,” said Officer Woods. “That's what we're here to do for Lisa, but also with Officer Kim in the next couple of weeks and months. We'll be there for them too."

The loss of Officer Sonny Kim is heavy on the heart of the Cincinnati Police Department and also Lisa Sierra's.

"My heart bleeds for Mrs. Kim,” said Lisa. “I'm with her in spirit. I'm thinking of her all the time.”

Lisa knows first-hand the support that will be there for her since she's experienced the pain herself.

"We will be there for her,” said Lisa. “Everyone will be there for her. While she doesn't understand it now, she is loved by many."

Joe Sierra said he wants the event to be a way to raise money for Eric's family, but said it also could be used as an emotional outlet.
