FDA advisers to assess safety of arthritis drugs

Food and Drug Administration advisers will meet next week to find a balance for pain-relieving drugs that may increase the risk of heart attacks. Vioxx and other drugs that relieve pain have shown an increase in the risk of heart attack in some cases. Vioxx was taken off the market by the manufacturer. FDA advisory groups will try to determine what went wrong, and what can be done now. The meetings begin Wednesday and run through Friday.
