WorldCupNOW: Defense shines again, China looms

The Women's World cup so far has had a lot of surprises. The match between USA vs. Columbia was bittersweet even though the Americans came out with a 2-0 victory.

The United States should've won with ease, especially with Columbia playing a woman down the second half. The decision to start Abby Wambach over Sydney Leroux was risky. Wambach is a very talented player and respected. However, age is more than just a number and it's starting to creep in. Leroux is young and fresh which means she can counter faster and she is a very talented player with a bright future ahead of her. Jill Ellis decision to not start Leroux up top could've cost the game, with Wambach missing her penalty kick while the game was still tied 0-0 in the second half and Columbia.

Alex Morgan was able to score and Carli Lloyd was able to cash in on her penalty kick to give the United States the 2-0 victory.

Yellow cards given to Lauren Holiday and Megan Rapinoe have to miss Fridays match against China in the quarterfinals. Without two of the Americans main offensive threats the game Friday could be close.

The United States' defensive line has been simply amazing all tournament. The communication on the backline is tremendous, backing up one another. Thus causing Colombia to struggle to finding their footing.

Rapinoe was the Woman of the Match against Colombia. Rapinoe has been a constant threat in an otherwise shaky American offensive attack.

The Americans play China on Friday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m. and you can watch it on FOX19 NOW. If you have any thoughts on the World Cup during any of the games tweet us using #WorldCupNOW!
