A child playing with a lighter started a fire that forced six people from the home early Thursday, fire officials said.
One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation during the 4 a.m. blaze on Vernier Drive near Wilcox Drive, Colerain Township fire officials said.
The family already had made it out when crews arrived.
The child playing with the lighter woke everyone in the house to get out safely.
Firefighters quickly extinguished a small fire in a child's back bedroom.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The home has extensive heat damage totaling about $40,000.
The family plans to stay with relatives until they are permitted to return.
