FOX19 - The US women's national team put down China 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the World Cup without Megan Rapinoe and Lauren Holiday in the lineup on Friday night.

The lone goal came in the second half when Julie Johnston sent a long ball from midfield into the box where Carli Lloyd headed the ball into the bottom right corner just out of the goalie's reach to give USA a 1-0 lead it would not relent.

USA got out of the gates quickly getting an opportunity from Amy Rodriguez, who started over Abby Wambach, in the second minute. Rodriguez would get a one-on-one opportunity but would miss her shot wide after trying to curve the ball with the outside of her foot. The US attack did not slow down as they would get a total of 11 first half shots with only four going on target. Other opportunities came in the eighth minute as Kelley O'Hara's shot sailed just over the goal and in the 26 minute Johnston headed a corner just over the top of the crossbar.

The US defense continued their good form, holding China to seven shots with only two of those shots being on target. USA has only given up one goal during World

Cup play and have gone four straight games without allowing a goal.

The US, ranked second in the FIFA rankings, will take on Germany, ranked first in the FIFA rankings, in the semifinals match-up Tuesday at 7 p.m.
