WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) -

A gunman is in custody after holding police at bay inside a Canal Way home for nearly 13 hours.

The standoff began around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday when officers were called to the area of Port Union Rialto Road off Ohio 747 to escort a woman to her property.

After repeatedly knocking on the door, a township officer used the woman's key to enter the mobile home. Heath Richards, 35, was inside pointing a gun at the officer, according to a West Chester spokesperson.

A SWAT team was on scene throughout the night and fired several gas grenades into the residence.

Richards surrendered peacefully around 8:30 a.m., according to Col. Joel Herzog. He is charged with resisting arrest, obstructing official business and inducing panic.

No one was injured during the standoff.
