Military personnel can visit Cincinnati Zoo for free July 4

FOX19/AP -

Military personnel can visit the Cincinnati Zoo for free on July 4 in recognition of their service to their country.

Zoo officials say the free admission offered Saturday will be available to active-duty, retired and honorably-discharged military personnel. They must show government-issued identification. The offer also allows qualifying military personnel to purchase up to six half-price admission tickets for members of their immediate family.

The zoo is open on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The facility opened to the public 140 years ago. Zoo officials say more than 1.5 million people visit annually to view more than 500 animal species and 3,000 plant species.
