COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - A motorist faces a judge Wednesday after she was charged with causing a fatal motorcycle accident on Interstate 71 during evening rush hour earlier this week.
Galit Shamay, 46, of Owensboro, Kentucky, is held without bond at the Hamilton County jail on a misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter.
Authorities say she failed to maintain a safe distance between her vehicle and Darren MacMillan's motorcycle on I-71 near the Ridge Road exit Monday night.
Her Mitsubishi Galant rear-ended his bike as traffic slowed due to congestion, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.
MacMillan, 51, was ejected off his motorcycle and dragged under her car, court records show.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.
Alcohol, drugs and speed are not believed to be factors in the accident, officials said.
The highway was shut down for more than two hours before reopening just before 8 p.m.
