Covington festival celebrates 200th birthday

COVINGTON, KENTUCKY (FOX19) - In honor of this city's 200th birthday, a six-day family festival kicks off Thursday.

BB&T Summer Celebration will run through July 14 around Covington landing and River Center Blvd block between Scott and Madison streets.

A major centerpiece will be a 50-foot Ferris wheel overlooking the Ohio River and the Cincinnati skyline.

There is also a 125-foot fun slide for the kids to enjoy.

A Duke Energy Kids Activity Tent will also be part of the celebration where more than 20 Covington organizers including the Kenton County Library will provide free games and activities for kids along Riverside boulevard.

The Mercedes-Benz of Fort Mitchell Stage where more than 20 live musical acts will take place throughout the Summer Celebration including local acts like The Rusty Griswolds and the School of Rock Mason.

There also will be lots of food.

BB&T Summer Celebration hours are 6-10pm Thursday; and 11a.m. – 10 p.m. Friday through Tuesday.
