One of two pedestrians struck on U.S. 42 at Ewing Boulevard early Tuesday has died, Covington police said.

The man was pronounced dead shortly after he was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, said Captain Tom Grau.

His name is being held while authorities work to notify his family.

Witnesses told police on scene both pedestrians appeared to be drunk and did not have the right-of-way when they were hit about 12:10 a.m.

The second victim, Tommy Strong, 31, of Florence has minor injuries and already was treated and released from the hospital.

The driver of the striking vehicle fled the scene and remains at large. He was described as white, 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds. He drove a dark-colored, mid-2000s Ford-150 pickup truck.
