One elderly woman, one wooden cane and two police officers wounded near South Bend, Indiana. A 79-year old woman is charged with battery and resisting law enforcement. Prosecutors allege Betty Chambers used her wooden cane to strike two officers who were at her home to check on her welfare. They were investigating a tip of elderly abuse and were handcuffing Chambers' live-in caretaker, a 57-year old man. Authorities say Chambers struck one officer in the head with her cane, giving him a concussion, and the other policeman suffered a shoulder and hand injury. The prosecutor for Saint Joseph County says the case is being treated seriously. He says "police are there to protect all of us." The woman's caretaker was also charged.
