CLIFTON, OH (FOX19) - University of Cincinnati quarterback Gunner Kiel has been named to the watch list for the Davey O' Brien Award.
The Davey O' Brien National Quarterback Award is given to the best college quarterback. According to the award's website, the quarterback who exemplifies Davey O' Brien's character while exhibiting teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership in both athletics and academics will receive the honor.
Kiel was a Second Team All-American Athletic Conference performer in his sophomore season, leading the conference in pass efficiency (149.4), completing 233 of his 390 passes for 3,254 yards and 31 touchdowns. The 31 touchdowns tied the school record set by Ben Mauk in 2007.
The junior was also named to the Maxwell watch list last week.
Kiel and the Bearcats begin their season Sept. 5 against Alabama A&M at 7 p.m. in Nippert Stadium.
