All-Star week sort of felt like when I got married; lots of planning, very little sleep and a lot of fun! Now, if I could only get the station to spring for a honeymoon ha! As a journalist I keep it professional on air but I’m not going to lie, I get giddy too!
Fortunately, being on a morning show allows me to show off some of that excitement. I get just as much enjoyment out of All-Star coverage as our viewers. Heck, I got sit in the dugout, interview Johnny Bench and hug George Foster.
I may wake up well before dawn but my job has some serious perks. FOX19 produced 19.5 hours of special All-Star coverage (ironic?) maybe but well worth the time and dedication it took to plan, produce and execute.
It took dozens of people to pull it off; during a normal morning show we have 4 floor crew members, a segment producer, intern, 2 directors, audio producer, 4 news producers, 2 meteorologists and 3 reporters! You get the idea, no partridge or pear tree but we’re a full house!
My favorite All-Star moment would have to be during our special coverage outside of Crave; there is nothing more exciting than dozens of Red’s fans screaming behind you while you attempt to sound coherent during a LIVE report. No sarcasm, I swear! Except for the massive number of mosquito I had to ward off at the stadium Rob and I had a blast.
