ST. LEON, IND (FOX19 NOW) -

One person died and two people were hurt in a crash that shut down eastbound Interstate 74 early Wednesday morning.

Larry Duenhoft, from Lawrenceburg, lost control of his Chevy Equinox, crossing the median and hitting a semi-tractor trailer head-on around 12:07 a.m. near the St. Leon exit, according to the Indiana State Police.

Duenhoft was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the Equinox, Brett Duenhoft, needed to be extricated from the vehicle and was flown via Air Care to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with life threatening injuries. The driver of the semi, Felipe De Jesus, 56, also needed to be extricated from his truck and is facing a critical internal injury, according to officials.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said. It was not immediately clear if alcohol, speed or health issues played a role.

Eastbound I-74 was closed for several hours before reopening by 4:45 a.m.
