HEBRON, KY (FOX19) - Low-cost carrier Allegiant Air is creating a hub based at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
Allegiant plans to make CVG its Midwestern base of operations by January 2016. The move will create at least 90 new jobs for pilots, flight attendants and airport service personnel.
Up to three 156-seat aircraft are expected to be based at CVG, airport officials announced at a press conference Thursday morning.
As Delta downsized their CVG operations, Allegiant and other budget airlines have expanded service. In 2011, Allegiant offered four weekly flights to two destinations. The airline now has 35 weekly flights to 11 locations.
"As Allegiant's fastest growing markets in their 16-year history, we are thrilled Allegiant is expanding their capacity to establish a base of operation," said Kenton County Airport Board Chairman Bill Robinson.
