Bengal Devon Still received good news this week that daughter Leah’s cancer remains in remission, but that didn’t make saying goodbye any easier.
In an emotional video posted to Instagram, Still and Leah share a secret handshake before dad heads to Cincinnati for training camp.
“I was only willing to show this part of our goodbye because we both make the ugliest faces when we cry,” Still wrote below the video.
He reported to training camp Thursday after spending the off-season with Leah in Philadelphia – where she lives with family and received treatment for neuroblastoma. Leah’s condition is better than ever and she’s nearing the final rounds of treatment, Still told reporters in the Bengals locker room.
“I’m very inspired by what my daughter was able to accomplish over this past year and I’m looking forward to going out there and showing her what I can overcome,” said Still.
The defensive tackle, who recently dropped nearly 30 pounds, says he’s in the best shape of his life. He joked that Leah would help keep his diet on track and even tell his trainer if he didn’t eat right.
Saying he’s ready to get back to football, Still expressed confidence about the 2015 Bengals preseason.
“I spent last year showing everybody the type of father I was and the type of person I am. Now it’s time to show everybody what type of football player I am.”
