CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Cincinnati restaurateur Jeff Ruby is squashing online rumors that he posted bond for the ex-University of Cincinnati cop accused of killing Samuel DuBose.
Word spread on twitter late Thursday night and Ruby swiftly responded the next day, calling the rumor a "total lie."
"Dear Mr.& Mrs DuBose, I met you at the funeral, invited you to dinner and expressed my feelings. Please be assured I didn't post his bail," Ruby tweeted.
Officer Ray Tensing was bailed out with a $100,000 bond - 10 percent of his total $1 million bond - Thursday night. Court records show it was actually Tensing's father who posted the bond.
Tensing shot DuBose during a July 19 traffic stop in Mt. Auburn.
Ruby, who attended DuBose's visitation Tuesday, told FOX19 NOW that he knows where the false tweet originated. Cincinnati Police are reportedly aware of the situation.
Other tweets reportedly implicated LaRosa's Pizzeria also contributed to Tensing's bail. The local restaurant has said they did not help Tensing in any way.
It is unclear how the vicious rumors began, but it – much like other online misinformation – spread rapidly.
