ELSMERE, KY (FOX19) -

Two people are dead following a domestic dispute and officer-involved shooting in Elsmere Thursday night.

Kentucky State Police identified the deceased as Gustavo Ponce-Galon and Maribel Angeles Garcia.

Elsmere Police responded to a home on Seneca Trail for a domestic violence call around 7:40 p.m., according to Lt. Rick Saint-Blanchard.

Tammy Waltz, the next-door neighbor who called 911, said the man and woman had children together. The couple’s young daughter knocked on Waltz’s door and said her dad was stabbing her mom, according to Waltz.

Officials say upon arrival, officers encountered Ponce-Galon inside his residence armed with a knife.  An officer gave multiple verbal commands to drop the knife in attempts to engage in verbal dialogue but Ponce-Galon refused.

Ponce-Galon refused to comply after several minutes and charged at an officer with his knife and was subsequently fatally shot inside the residence, KSP said.

Police found Garcia with life-threatening injuries resulting from the domestic violence and was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, according to authorities. She was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Investigators have not released the relationship between the man and woman.

Kentucky State Police are handling the investigation and warned the probe will be a lengthy process.

"The reason why we're doing it, is because we're an objective entity and obviously we'll look at all the facts and get their support in the process," said Lt. Saint-Blanchard. "It  takes a long time to process the scene. We pick up all the evidence. We try to leave nothing in question. We work in very much detail and we don't go away with any assumptions, but facts."

Investigators said they still aren’t sure if there is body cam video, but say even if so, they would have no plans to release it.
