White House Chef

Laura Bush looking for a chef who can make barbecue and Tex-Mex

It may seem like one of the more glamorous jobs in cooking -- White House executive chef, in charge of fancy dishes at ornate state dinners. But Laura Bush doesn't expect any celebrity chefs you see on TV to apply for the open post because she's looking for somebody who also likes to make more everyday things. She tells Newsweek magazine the first family likes "spicy food of all kinds" -- specifically Tex-Mex and barbecue. She calls the president a -- quote -- "very good eater." Walter Scheib has left the White House after eleven years as executive chef.
