MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - A 26-year-old female pedestrian trying to commit suicide was hit by a semi tractor-trailer and killed on southbound Interstate 75 late Wednesday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Emergency crews responded to the highway just south of Ohio 122 just after 10:30 p.m.
Amanda Baker, 26, of Beavercreek, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation concluded she crossed the southbound lanes directly in front of a Volvo truck, said Lt. Matt Hamilton, commander of the patrol's Lebanon post.
When Baker's family was notified of her death, they told authorities she suffered from mental depression.
Drugs nor alcohol appear to be factors, Hamilton said.
The truck driver, 73, of Union, Kentucky, was not hurt.
Part of the southbound side of the highway was shut down for more than three hours while authorities investigated. All lanes have reopened.
