Gas prices spike across Midwest

Gas prices are on the rise after an unplanned outage at a BP oil refinery in Whiting, Indiana.
 
An important piece of equipment was heavily damaged over the weekend and had to be shut down for repairs.
 
The refinery is currently operating at less than half its normal capacity.
 
On Wednesday, gas prices in the Tri-State spiked up by 30-40 cents a gallon.
 
According to GasBuddy.com, the most affected states are Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Wisconsin, but other states are seeing increases.

The BP refinery affected is the largest in the Midwest. Repairs are expected to take at least a month, maybe longer.
