Former XU assistant coach resigns from Maryland job amid allegations

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - University of Maryland has announced that the former Xavier University women's assistant basketball coach charged with sexually abusing one of the XU players has resigned from his position.

Bryce McKey, 29, was charged this week with misdemeanor sexual abuse after an incident at his Covington home, according to Kenton District Court records.

The alleged victim stated in a complaint McKey inappropriately touched her leg when they left his home on May 2 to get food. McKey offered the player alcohol, and touched her buttocks twice without her permission, records state.

On April 22, McKey accepted an assistant coaching position at the University of Maryland. Late Thursday night, University of Maryland's athletic department confirmed to that McKey was suspended indefinitely.

University of Maryland announced on Friday that McKey had resigned from his position.

The former XU assistant coach was not an employee of Xavier at the time of the incident, the XU confirmed Thursday night.

The women's basketball team is currently in Canada.

McKey graduated from Malone University and came to Xavier prior to the 2011-12 season after coaching at Hathaway Brown High School in Shaker Heights, Ohio.
