Kara Sewell: Being a kid again at Kings Island

I’m a little sore today. I guess it’s the ramifications of riding half a dozen roller coasters in a 3 hour span.

It may not sound like a lot but for a woman who rode her last coaster in 2004, my first trip to Kings Island put me to bed early. I meant to get to the theme park, near Mason, months ago but you know how that goes. I finally put in for a vacation day on Monday just to make the event special.

We got a late start but I never miss a chance to sleep in. We started with the ‘Banshee’, my husband made us wait to ride in the very front (oh the things we do for love). From there, we hopped on ‘The Bat’, I wasn’t expecting much but it totally surprised us with its twists and turns; we were laughing at how unprepared we were to be thrilled.

Unfortunately, a long rain delay prevented us from riding everything we came to experience (Diamondback) but the inclement weather did allow us to enjoy the ‘Boo Blaster’ with the rest of the 3-year-olds. Don’t let its low intensity rating deter you, it’s awesome! You get to shoot a laser gun at targets and in my case beat the pants off my husband! I think our competitive screams may have scared the kids more than the neon ghosts.

We polished the day off with some blueberry soft serve, ‘Vortex’ and ‘The Beast’; we probably should have saved the soft serve for the end of the day but no one got sick.

Needless to say, we will be back in a few weeks when my brother comes to visit and our first stop will be Diamondback. Do you have a favorite Kings Island roller coaster?
