Hundreds turn out as Cabela's opens in West Chester

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - Hundreds turned out as Cabela's celebrated the grand opening of its second Ohio store Wednesday morning.

Cabela's executives and special guests hosted a 9:45 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony at the 82,000 square-foot store just off Liberty Way and Interstate 75 amid a flurry of commercial development.

An employee shot an arrow from a bow to cut the ribbon, kicking off a weekend-long celebration highlighted by special appearances, family events, giveaways, sales and more.

Several people camped outside the store overnight for their chance to be among the first inside. One person out of the first 100 shoppers through the door received a $500 gift card. Other special prizes were given away.

In addition to setting off excitement among those shopping for outdoor gear and apparel, the store also boosted to local economy by hiring the job market 200 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees.

The building is designed to offer customers an immersive outdoor experience with log construction, stonework, a mountain replica, dozens of wildlife displays and museum-quality taxidermy mounts, vintage outdoor photos and memorabilia, hand-painted murals, an aquarium and an indoor archery range.

The store will include a cafe, fudge shop, boat shop, gun library, 'Bargain Cave' and Cabela's wildlife and land management products.

It is Cabela's second store in Ohio, joining the Columbus store that opened in 2013.

The company has announced plans to open locations in Centerville in spring 2016 and Avon in spring 2017.
