HIGHLAND HEIGHTS (FOX19) - A new conference, a new coach and now a new court design.
Northern Kentucky University unveiled a new design on its basketball floor in the BB&T Arena Wednesday. The new design features a Norse ship watermark, with the NKU Norse wordmark in the middle of the ship's sail at center court.
"We wanted a new, fresh look for the court to showcase the Norse brand," said Athletic Director Ken Bothof. "The Norse ship rising through the sea is meant to serve as a metaphor for the uprising of Northern Kentucky athletics."
"Northern Kentucky" is written along each baseline, while "Northern Kentucky University" is positioned along the sideline opposite the scorer's table, the University announced.
In May, NKU Athletics announced the University's transition from the Atlantic Sun Conference to the Horizon Conference.
The men's basketball team completed its third-year of a four-year transition period to Division I last season. The team will be eligible for the NCAA Tournament in the 2016-17 season.
