MADISONVILLE, OH (FOX19) - Police are investigating a deadly overnight shootout that killed two and injured at least five others in Madisonville.
Investigators say a fight broke out early Saturday morning in the basement Elks Lodge on the corner of Mathis Street and Prentice Street. The fight resulted in a shootout on the street nearby, officials said.
Seven people were shot and two of them died, one at the scene and the other at University Hospital. Police identify the victims as 56-year-old Barry Washington and 30-year-old Timothy Murphy.
The remaining victims were transported to local hospitals and are expected to survive their injuries.
A man living across the street from Elks Lodge told FOX 19 that just before midnight Friday, he began to hear a large group of people screaming and shouting outside on the street. He says the shouting was followed by the sound of at least six gunshots. According to him, the group of people involved in the fight had just attended a child's birthday party in the Elk Lodge.
Police are still searching for the shooter(s) responsible. The investigation by the Homicide Unit is ongoing.
