MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - A 28-year-old homeless mother faces three counts of child endangering after police say they found her three young children on a bench outside a closed restaurant while she attended job training down the street.
Sheryce Dozier, who lives with her children at a Middletown homeless shelter, told police she left her children - ages 2, 4 and 7 - alone outside a closed Applebee's restaurant off Towne Boulevard Thursday morning because she had no one to watch them while she underwent job orientation at a nearby Wendy's, an incident report shows.
An Applebee's worker called police after seeing the children alone on the bench for about 15 minutes.
Police realized the boy should have been in school, but he said he was not enrolled.
While Dozier was arrested, police tried to contact her sister to take the children. But her sister didn't have a proper driver's license and could not come drive up.
Police next tried to reach Butler County Children Services, but they were unable to talk to an employee, records show.
So they turned the children over to the homeless shelter where they have been staying, Center of Hope for Women and Children, 1300 Girard Ave.
Dozier is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
