COVINGTON, KENTUCKY (FOX19) - A teen carjacking suspect rammed two police cruisers and injured an officer early Tuesday, authorities said.
Rashaad Smith, 18, is held at the Kenton County jail on charges of assault on a police officer, fleeing and evading, possession of a controlled substance, receiving stolen property, wanton endangerment and disorderly conduct.
Covington police encountered him when they responded to the City Heights Housing Complex late Monday after receiving a report that a stolen 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix taken in a Cincinnati carjacking was in the area, said Assistant Police Chief Brian Steffen in a prepared statement.
Smith fled in the car, leading officers on a chase. He rammed two police cruisers, injuring one officer who required medical attention, Steffen said.
The officer is expected to recover and will return to duty later this week.
Smith's car also slammed into two other parked, unoccupied vehicles.
The pursuit ended in the area of Emery Drive after Smith stopped the Grand Prix and took off running.
Officers fanned out in a perimeter and quickly apprehended him.
