Former University of Cincinnati Police Officer Ray Tensing through his attorney officially filed an issue to order a change of venue for his forthcoming trial in the shooting death of Sam DuBose during a routine traffic stop.
Stew Mathews, who represents Tensing, believes that Tensing cannot obtain a fair and impartial trial in Hamilton County.
According to court documents, Mathews accuses Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters "made multiple inflammatory, derogatory and prejudicial statements about Defendant declaring his guilt prior to a trial and these statements have led to an overwhelming number of comments on social media, letters to the editor, and commentary in various forms of media that demonstrate that opinions of potential jurors have been galvanized."
UC fired Tensing shortly after his indictment on charges of murder and voluntary manslaughter in the July 19 death DuBose. Tensing has pleaded not guilty.
