HAMILTON COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - A Municipal Civil Deputy Bailiff was indicted Thursday for removing property from evictions and selling them for personal gain.
Deputy Bailiff Michael Garvey, 47, was indicted on theft in office after the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office was notified by Hamilton County Clerk of Courts Tracy Winkler of a possible theft allegation against an employee.
Garvey was arrested on last month after officials say he stole currency and jewelry items from an eviction and attempted to sell the jewelry at a local business.
He has been an employee of the Hamilton County Civil Bailiffs Division for approximately eight to 10 years, according to the Sheriff's office. His duties as a bailiff include serving subpoenas and processing eviction orders among other tasks.
He is being held in the Hamilton County jail.
