UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH (FOX19) -

The brand-new Nippert Stadium is preparing for a big night: The stadium is hosting the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown.

Nippert Stadium has nearly completed an $80 million renovation.

Four high school football teams will be battling it out on the field Friday night. St. Xavier High School is taking on Covington Catholic at 5:30 p.m.

Then, a few hours later at 8 p.m., Moeller High School will challenge Indianapolis Cathedral High School.

These teams should feel special because they will take the field before the Bearcats play their home opener on September 5.

Both sides of Nippert stadium are getting upgrades.

The West Pavilion will have a new press box and premium seating area and will add suites and scholarship club seats.

It will also have new fan amenities including concession stands and restrooms.

The east side of Nippert will also have new concession stands, restrooms and an improved traffic flow thanks to new skywalks.

UC estimates Nippert will now be able to seat 40,000 people.
