Juan Carlos Alvarez-Chavez (Warren County Sheriff's Office)
DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -
A Chicago man is accused of raping a woman in a random attack outside a hotel in this normally quiet Warren County suburb over the weekend, police said.
Juan Carlos Alvarez-Chavez, 24, of Chicago, is held in lieu of $50,000 bond on one count of rape at the county jail. He returns to court Thursday.
Authorities responded to a report of a missing female guest at the Mason Inn off Mason Montgomery Road just after 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
They quickly realized the suspect grabbed the woman, dragged her into the woods and raped her when she ran outside after arguing with her boyfriend.
“We obviously have calls for service to that hotel like we do at most hotels, but nothing of this magnitude,” said Lt. John Faine with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim's boyfriend was searching the parking lot for her when a deputy pulled up and heard him yelling for her.
"He had no clue what was going on or where she was, and certainly not any idea of what was taking place in the woods,” Faine said.
As deputies searched for the woman, they heard voices coming from a wooded area adjacent to the hotel. As they walked into the woods, they saw a man trying to leave and a woman on the ground.
Alvarez-Chavez was taken into custody.
Authorities remain unsure how the suspect and the woman crossed paths.
Alvarez-Chavez has been staying at the Mason Inn while working in the area. Authorities do not know where he is employed.
"We don't have additional information that leads us to believe there was also an abduction as part of it," Faine said. "I can't rule that possibility out yet. But, at this time, we only have charges to substantiate the rape count."
Anyone with information is asked to call Faine at 513-701-1801.
