COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

A fatal crash shut down the ramp from westbound Interstate 275 to Blue Rock Road and Blue Rock Road at Northwest Road for more than 12 hours late Tuesday and early Wednesday.

A semi tractor-trailer driver died after losing control of his vehicle and running off the road and deep into the trees just after 8 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

When crews arrived, they found the driver – a man in his 50s – trapped in the 18-wheel vehicle. It took fire and police crews several hours to extricated him, said Sgt. Scott Owen.

A Hazmat crew also arrived and quickly contained a small chemical leak.

“The wrecker is here now and they are just about to start trying to pull this big rig out,” the sergeant said at 3:30 a.m. “It ran off the road and traveled quite a distance through the trees.

The driver’s name has not been released while authorities notify his company and next of kin.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The ramp and road were shut down until about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday.
