Statute Expires On Warren Strip Searches

An investigation commissioned by the city of Warren has found that police officers broke the law when they conducted a number of strip searches. But no charges will be filed. The independent investigator says officers did not always complete the required paperwork, and sometimes did not have probable cause or authority to conduct the searches. But because the violations were misdemeanor offenses governed by only a two-year statute of limitations, the time limit for filing charges has expired in five of the six cases. The sixth one will not be prosecuted.

All of the individuals involved filed civil suits against the city, and all have been settled.
